I've been meaning to talk about the weekend what with the start of the greatest tournament in the sporting world (it's the world cup for you bookworms out there).. But hey whaddya know? It's midweek already..

*groan*

Been swamped with work today especially. Not big stuff but little stuff. I find that's the biggest difference once you become a fully fledged lawyer. You get TONNES of little things that creep into your workload.. From little discussions with clients wanting a safety blanket (ie. you) to filing your correspondence to cover your ass (ie. to protect from the 1st 'lil' thing) to drafting and writing letters corrollary to your main letter to clocking your timesheets to bill clients to drawing up bills to impressing upon your clients they will be billed (ie. it's not free you cheapskate) to being middle management to the interns and pupils to.. gosh the list just goes on... And all this is in addition to the stuff that you already used to have to do like doing research and assisting your boss on the big matters.. which takes up fair chunk of your time..

And when you consider each thing it's not alot.. But there's so many antsy things and when they add up. BAM! You're totally floored by how tired you are. Not to mention how I hate having things hanging over my head, but that is inevitable due to the nature of an associate's job scope...

All these 5 cents and 10 cent things shouldn't bother me but it's difficult when you're still unsure of SOPs and there's this voice in your head that warns "they're gonna sue your ass for negligence" on repeat.

*double groan*

Anyways... on to happier thoughts...

Like I said the weekend brought the start of the biggest football bonanza the world knows. An event 4 years in the making. An event that brings together the biggest stars.. And your most die-hard fans..

And for me it's a great time to hang out with the lads... There is no better excuse for your mates to come together for an evening, nay, a night of just hanging out and talking. The camaraderie you get is priceless. The entertainment , both on and off screen, boundless. I laughed my head off when the law bunch came over on friday. What better time than midnight to 3am for a group of perpetually busy professionals to simply catch up and talk cock. When they left in the morning, my stomach was tight from all the laughter and my heart warm from the banter.

Twas the same the next night with my kakis... This was a different dynamic, brought about by a group I've hung out with for close to two decades. For us, the world cup always marks a milestone. Another four years of friendship and memories. Football the common denominator that brought us together back when we were cute primary six kids playing Football Manager to the now young men starting their careers.. One of us is getting married later this year. The first. Soon others will follow. And then, like we jest, lil kids will tug on ours pants asking "Uncle ...., papa says he used to thrash you in car wars".

*chuckle*

I'm grateful.

And happy.

Cos greatest show on earth or not, *hand to heart* nothing beats an good old night out with the boys...

Long live the brotherhood of football
